Social Media

A crucial and often-overlooked part of building your brand on the Web is social media engagement — listening to, not just talking at, your target market in any of the big social media platforms, from Facebook to Twitter to Google+ to Pinterest and beyond.

In this interview with Cindy Richards, editor-in-chief of TravelingMom.com, we learn about one effective strategy for audience engagement, the use of Twitter chats. Cindy is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist who serves as Editor-in-Chief for TravelingMom.com. She previously worked at Chicago’s two major newspapers, 15 years for the Chicago Sun-Times and two years for the Chicago Tribune. She found her passion for travel writer when she was an editor for the award-winning regional magazine, Chicago Parent. She has taught journalism in the graduate program at Northwestern University’s prestigious Medill School of Journalism.

We’re both proud members of Journalism and Women Symposium, also known as “JAWS,” a national association of women journalists. You can learn more about JAWS here. You can find us on Twitter at the following locations: Cindy, Lily, JAWS.

(And if you’d like to tune in to one of TravelingMom’s Twitter chats, they’re held every Monday night at 8:00 p.m. Central time for an hour. Follow the hashtag #tmom.)
